Compare absorbency, dimensions, leak resistance, grip and disposal. Prevent chewing or swallowing and remove soiled pads promptly. Also consider whether the product can adapt as the puppy grows and whether it is easy to clean. Establish clear household rules from the beginning and use equipment consistently. PDSA recommends preparation before the puppy arrives, including a safe resting area, suitable supplies, puppy-proofing and veterinary planning. If a product causes distress, repeated escape attempts or an obvious safety problem, stop using it and choose a more suitable arrangement.
