Check the tool and accessory

Before use, inspect the tool, cable or battery, guard and accessory. Use only accessories specified as suitable for the machine and operation. The equipment should be appropriate for the task, material and working conditions. Do not defeat guards or continue using equipment with a safety defect.

Control the workpiece and hazards

Secure the workpiece so it cannot move unexpectedly. Keep hands away from moving cutters and blades and maintain a stable working position. Consider flying debris, dust, noise, vibration and electrical hazards as well as the obvious cutting hazard. Where dust is generated, use suitable extraction or other controls appropriate to the material and equipment.

Isolate before adjustment or maintenance^★

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for changing accessories, cleaning, maintenance and shutdown. HSE woodworking guidance states that tools and cutters need safe mounting and that setting, adjustment and cleaning should not expose people to moving parts.
