Choose the blade for the material

The blade must match the material as well as the desired finish. Coarser teeth are generally associated with faster cutting in suitable timber, while finer tooth patterns can produce a cleaner edge but may cut more slowly. Metal-cutting blades use tooth patterns intended for metal rather than wood. Always check the blade manufacturer's stated applications instead of assuming that a blade suitable for one material will perform correctly on another.

Consider the cut you need

Blade length, tooth pitch and construction influence how the blade behaves. For thicker stock, the usable cutting length must be adequate and the machine must be suitable for the job. For curves, a blade intended for curved cutting can make control easier. If appearance matters, support the workpiece properly and choose a blade designed for the required finish. Fit and use blades safely

Check the jigsaw's fitting system and use the blade type specified by the machine manufacturer.
