Breed characteristics and background

The Bedlington Terrier originated around the Northumberland town of Bedlington and was historically used to control vermin and pursue quarry. Its distinctive appearance should not disguise its working-terrier heritage. The Royal Kennel Club classifies it as small, with a medium coat, no shedding listed in its basic characteristics and up to around one hour of exercise per day. The breed has a distinctive arched loin, narrow head and crisp coat.
